55th World Series Report
First I would like to thanks Scott at Cordova for having us there and my crew for helping (Troy Martin, Jared and Tim Wurtzel, Mike Minick, Greg Johnson, and Mark Condit).
We left Saturday morning to make the trek west to Cordova. The whole way over it looked like it could start raining at any moment. However, once we made it to the track the clouds disappeared and it was a warm and muggy day. The car was all serviced and ready to go when we arrived so we spent most of the afternoon chatting and signing autographs.
The show started around 7 but first round was tuff on the Cordova track staff. There were a few wrecks and oil downs. When we were up my guys fired me up and put the body down. Mike helped me threw the water box and I start smoking the new hides. The car moves sideways and I let off. It straightens out and back on the pedal I go. Then all of sudden silence was all around me. I climb out of the car a little disappointed. My guys push it back out of the way and go back to the trailer. I stayed back to watch Doc run and boy did the car go he ran a 6.14. Congrats to the Telstar gang! I walk away frustrated because I knew we had the combo in our car to run close to the same number. Come to find out my rubber band broke on the burn out and took out the throttle cable at the same time. We fixed all the damage from the belt and hunted down a new cable. A big THANK YOU to the Bowens team they hand a cable close to the size I needed. Thanks Shawn! We fire her back up in the pits and she is ready to go.
For second round we are paired with the miller rear gear car. This time in the burn out everything stays together and we line up ready for the Christmas tree to drop. I was sleeping a little bit and Randy gets out on me first. But I had the time made up by 60’. The car was really pulling and the clutch dust was really floating. I am smiling ear to ear knowing this thing is hauling and we are making some good power. We get by the 330 with no problem and then the cars moves towards the center line. I pedal it and back towards the center it goes again. This time I lift and coast on down. I little bummed but at the same time really happy. We found the tune up again and we are ready to roll. My 60’ was 1.004, 330 2.727, 1/8 mile 4.185 at only 154 mph and coasted threw at 7.527 at 120mph.
Want say thanks to everyone that helped on the car and at the track.
